A social media influencer has baffled her fans with a ‘hidden’ British village that looks just like the Italian Riviera – and now others want to go there too.
TikTok star Meera Pankhania, 25, made a video about her trip to the picturesque village, which she visited with her boyfriend a few weeks ago.
The village of Portmeirion really does look like it’s been lifted straight from Italy, and comes complete with brightly coloured houses, large fountains, and even a piazza.
However, it’s not on the continent but in northwest Wales – near the Snowdonia National Park – and now TikTok users are set to be flocking there after being alerted to its location by Meera.
Meera, from London, said: “My boyfriend and I were meant to go to Portugal that weekend but as it went on Amber list, we visited here as an alternative and then climbed Mount Snowdon.
“We stayed there for two days and while I’ve never visited Italy myself, I felt like I was in Lake Como. To arrive at the place, you travel through some beautiful roads and beautiful scenery.
“When you arrive parking is free, tickets should be pre-booked and cost £14 per adult for entry to the village. Once you arrive you almost instantly feel like you are in Italy.
“The views were amazing of a beautiful lake that the village overlooked.

“When you’re within the village you are free to wander around. They have a few shops there, cafes, bars, and restaurants as well as an on-site hotel which I didn’t actually stay at.”
Built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, Portmeirion was designed to emulate the Italian Riviera, and endangered buildings and unwanted artefacts from all over the globe were even transported into the village.
Some were rebuilt to create loggias, grand porticoes and tiny terracotta-roofed houses, painted in bright colours.
Sharing a video of the spot online with her 808 followers, Meera asked: “Did you know there is a hidden village in the UK that looks like Italy?”
Her video shows vibrant Italian-style buildings and beautiful beach views as well as a Mediterranean piazza, which is the village’s central feature.
In another video, Meera responded to another TikTok user who said they’d been to the village too but had found it “boring.”
Her videos received over 318,000 views, 56,000 likes, and thousands of comments from people who couldn’t get enough of the secret village.
One person wrote: “Captured it beautifully, how could anyone get bored here?”
Another said: “I’ve been there before, it’s pretty.”
One person urged Meera to keep the stunning village a secret, commenting: “Noooo, don’t tell everyone or it’ll be packed with TikTokers. It’s not too late to delete this.”
And another TikToker declared: “I’m Welsh and I’ve never heard of this place so thank you! Not everyone knows about it.”
